My Son, He's Gonna Make a Wonderful Man One Day!

I just want to say, boys who learn it's ok to cry when they are little will turn out to be good men. My son loves to watch movies & tv shows with me. Usually it's movies like Batman or Spiderman, sometimes he wants to watch a horror flick with us. He does watch "girly" shows with his sister & me, things like Teen Mom, he adores Maci & Farrah, Bad Girls Club & other shows like that. Today though, he happened to be up super early, before his usually "awake at dawn" sister. He layed on the couch with his pillow & blanket & caught up on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. We were catching up on last season since Netflix has some of them on there. The final episode today, the one where Ben & Adrian find out their baby has passed away & everyone arrives thinking it's a happy moment. It turnd out to be a super sad one, I bawled my eyes out. At the end, when I was wiping away my tears, my 10 year old little boy looks at me & says, "Wow Mommy, that was so sad. I was crying!" He's such a sweetheart. This isn't the first time he's cried over something sad, and I hope he will always carry in his heart that it's ok to cry when something's sad or hurts you. I'm very proud of my little guy!

BOOK REVIEW: Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America

Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America ~ 4/5

Here's what www.amazon.com says:
Acclaimed as an instant classic upon publication, Nickel and Dimed has sold more than 1.5 million copies and become a staple of classroom reading. Chosen for “one book” initiatives across the country, it has fueled nationwide campaigns for a living wage. Funny, poignant, and passionate, this revelatory firsthand account of life in low-wage America—the story of Barbara Ehrenreich’s attempts to eke out a living while working as a waitress, hotel maid, house cleaner, nursing-home aide, and Wal-Mart associate—has become an essential part of the nation’s political discourse.

Now, in a new afterword, Ehrenreich shows that the plight of the underpaid has in no way eased: with fewer jobs available, deteriorating work conditions, and no pay increase in sight, Nickel and Dimed is more relevant than ever.

My thoughts:

The book was wonderful, it really showed what it takes for someone to actually get a job that pays something in America. Yes, the minimum wage has gone up, but so has EVERYTHING else! I hope this book opens the eyes of others who read it too.

MOVIE REVIEW: Masters of Horror: Don Coscarelli: Incident On and Off a Mountain Road

Masters of Horror: Don Coscarelli: Incident On and Off a Mountain Road ~ 3/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
2005 NR 51 minutes

Chased through the night woods by the maniacal Moonface (John De Santis), Ellen (Bree Turner) defends herself by rigging a series of booby traps she learned from her cruel survivalist husband (Ethan Embry). But her tricks may not be enough to stave off the creepy predator. Writer-director Don Coscarelli, of Phantasm and Beastmaster fame, adapted this entry in the Showtime series from a short story by cult horror writer Joe R. Landsdale.

My thoughts:

It was an ok movie, typical thrasher, back woods movie. Until the twist at the end! Love these movies off of fear net!!

Slow, Boring Day!

I got caught up on The Secret Life of the American Teenager ~ I love the show, but it's overly focused on sex! My!!

Then I got on-line for daily & weekly contests, then I had time to play on facebook & also got some great freebies today! Signed up for alot of stuff :)

Kids got chores done quickly & my son went to the pool. It's almost closing time for our local pool ~ August 14th.

Had a nice dinner & watched a movie after. Now finishing up some alone time & then spending some cuddle time with my hubby :)

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Nice day today :)

We started off today, walking across town. We walked over 25 blocks. It was nice excercise. The kids didn't even really complain much, they were glad not to have to walk uphill though!

Got to the mall around 11, shopped at K-mart. They had great deals on 2, 4 & 10 packs of movies. I put some of them & a few Christmas gifts on lay-a-way. I had an old cancelled one, so I used that money to do a new one! Love lay-a-ways!! :)

Then we had lunch, sausage pizza & cheese bread @ Little Ceasars! Love their food, it was delicious as always!!

The movie went great, it was fun & a movie for everyone: Check out my review!!

Then my son decided to head to the pool for an hour, my daughter started the chicken for dinner & I got an hour to relax! Made dinner & had our 3rd family dinner @ our new table!!

After dinner was a movie & dessert. A little on-line time, now time for bed. Had a wonderful day with my kiddos today!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Masters of Horror: John Landis: Family

Masters of Horror: John Landis: Family ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
Masters of Horror: John Landis: Family(2007) NR

Don't mind Harold Thompson (George Wendt), the mild-mannered bachelor in this idyllic suburban neighborhood -- he's just a serial killer. And he has his sights set on his hot new neighbor Celia (Meredith Monroe). But when he invites her to be a part of his "family," the suburbs get messy. Horror ace John Landis, working in the same satirical vein as David Lynch's Blue Velvet, helms this darkly comic shocker of twisted suburbia.

Our thoughts:

Good plot, the man who plays Harold aka Norm from Cheers, was spectacular! He played a real creep & his torture was something I looked forward to! His "family" creeped me out majorly! Overall, a pretty good flick & the ending was a nice twist! Reminds me of Tales from the Crypt, minus the Cryptkeeper.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Smurfs

The Smurfs ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
The Smurfs(2011) PG

When wicked sorcerer Gargamel tries to capture them to use as talismans for his own evil magic, the peaceful blue Smurfs flee their woodland home, pass through a magic portal and find themselves stranded in New York City. Now, Papa Smurf, Smurfette and their clan turn to a young couple (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays) for help getting back home. Raja Gosnell directs an all-star cast that includes the voices of Jonathan Winters and Katy Perry.

My thoughts:

My husband's first thought was that they were "going to ruin it." When I went into the theater today, I thought well, he COULD be right? But, I was willing to take my chances! My daughter's favorite singer is Katy Perry, so she was really looking forward to it! Everyone in our home is a big George Lopez fan, so Grouchy was a favorite for us! He killed it once again, I laughed my butt off over his lines. He puts actual character into his lines! Overall the movie was GREAT!! I laughed, a cried, I choked on my soda lol, it was great! Must see for EVERYONE!!!

My Baby Niece is 1!!!

My niece, I'll call her Miss M :) turned the big one last Sunday, the 31st of July.

Today was her party. It was at her home, she had a wonderful turn out. Probably close to 30 people! She got spoiled bunches: dolls, stuffed animals, a pillow pet, ride on horse & lots of cute clothes!

She had a pretty Ariel cake, which she got to make herself a mess with!!

Overall, it was a fun time!! My kids had a good time. My daughter was playing with the babies while my son was running wild!

Keeping Up & Family Fun Night!!

I've been trying my hardest to keep up on here. It just seems like I always have 25,000 other things to get done too & this seems to always be last!

I'll try to do better!!

Today was Family Fun Night @ our local pool. My husband, myself & our 2 children went. My future SIL was there with her three kids. They are so adorable! My 3 1/2 year old nephew thinks its awesome to jump into his swim ring. My daughter & I spent most of our time playing with him. He's growing up too fast!! Love him to death!

They always give away prizes & my nephew won a football :) Woo-Hoo!!

They are wonderful, I love that they provide a DJ for music, free swim and a meal: hot dog, popcorn, soda & an ice cream treat. It's a great way for a family to have a great time for FREE!! My son got a beach ball shaped like a baseball. They gave away about 50 of the beach balls, just tossed em in the pool & if you got one, you could keep it. Awesome!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules(2011) PG

Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) returns to overcome ridiculous obstacles in this sequel to the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid adaptation, based on the books by Jeff Kinney. This time around, Greg must cope with the habits of his insufferable brother, Rodrick (Devon Bostick). For some reason, Greg's mom Susan (Rachael Harris) and dad Frank (Steve Zahn) are convinced that the brothers should bond.

My thoughts:

I absolutely ADORE these books!! And the movies are just as fun & exciting for the entire family! I sure hope they make all of them into movies!! My kids are big fans & so am I!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Instinct to Kill

Instinct to Kill ~ 3/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
2001 R 91 minutes

Tess (Missy Crider) has fooled everyone, including herself, by playing the role of the happily married wife. Yet, when her righteous cop husband, Jim (Tim Abell), gets violent, she becomes suspicious and soon discovers that he has secretly murdered nine women. She gets the drop on him and sends him to the slammer ... but Jim escapes from prison with revenge on his mind. Now, Tess must steel herself for the showdown that's sure to ensue.

My thoughts:

First off, it's based on a book. A book I have not read. I watched anyway, it started off sort of confusing. I guess you had to read the book to know what was really going on. The remainder of the movie was ok. Your typical romance novel/drama. It was ok, but very predictable.

Busy Weelend, Now I'm Mom to a TEENAGER!!

Let's see, I spent Wednesday & Thursday (July 27th & 28th) cleaning. Thursday we had moonlight swim, had a blast, water was GREAT!!

Friday, I had to bake my daughter's birthday cake, clean up & prepare for her party. Her cake turned out wonderful. We got her an Ipod Touch, she also got Squinkies, Littlest Pet Shop, 3 pair of flip flops, body sprays, lip glosses, nail polish, $25 & a ticket to see Tim McGraw on Saturday. She had a sleepover with 2 friends that night too. Her daddy & uncle missed her party because they went to a heavy metal concert.

Saturday, she helped clean up & hung out with her best friend/cousin. They are super close. We got to the concert about 6:45, it started at 7. Had a blast!! It was Tim McGraw, Luke Bryan & The Band Perry. She got a Tim McGraw bracelet. She went with me, her grandma, aunt & cousin. Didn't get home til 12:30am.

Sunday, we had church & lunch after. It went pretty good. Then we ended up taking a trip to the local park. We did mini golf, paddle boating & then met up with my best friend & her family for swimming & water slide. My hubby spent the day on the water slide. He's crazy!!

Today was a relaxing day, all minus my MIGRAINE :( My future SIL brought her boys over, then she took my niece & daughter birthday shopping. Her daughter's birthday was Sunday, she turned 1. My son & I entertained the boys with Barney, Spiderman & fake tatoos!! Had a blast!!

Now, I hope to blog more often, IF my life gets any slower!! Time to prepare for back to school & the last 3 weeks of summer vacation!

Monday, July 25, 2011

It's another hot one....

Got up early and my friend didn't even get ahold of me :( ~ Then, I relaxed all day, got an order in the mail & a prize I won!! Love getting packages I forget I'm expecting!!

Did a little cleaning of the kitchen & the living room floor. Dinner with my hubby & the kids, my nieces & nephew are over for the night. It's like a weekend for us. Monday til Wednesday!! :)

My godson is over for a little bit too, he missed me!! :)

Time for WWE :) Enjoy your night friends!!

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Should have been a relaxing Sunday........

....but it wasn't, so what can you do?

Started out well, got up for church and got ready. Kids were up, ready and had already put the dog out before I made my way downstairs. Good job kids :)

Sunday school was wonderful at first. My brother & his girlfriend showed up, arguing as always. My brother ended up leaving, but not before he threatened to punch out her car window in front of everyone. Ugh, my dumb brother!!

After he left, it went back to being a good service. I had 7 children in my Sunday School class, ranging from 1-5. After that, church service, which also went well.

Came home to get lunch ready. I had taco meat & cheese w/ nachos. The kids had noodles, their faves!!

Cleaned out the fridge while they did chores. Day was still going pretty good. Made Kool-aid, checked e-mails, sent invites for surveys & stuff. Still going well.

Time to do dishes & start dinner. Starts off well, I get most of the dishes from cleaning out the fridge & lunch done. I realize the sink is leaking. There is water & noodles all over the floor under the sink. Top this off with my husband is working late. Scheduled til 5, doesn't get home til almost 8.

When he gets home, I tell him about sink issue. He says he'll fix it after dinner. I go to check dinner, which is hamburger helper. Have I told you yet that I can't make hamburger helper for my life? I burnt the bottom, fine, I'll get new pan & finish cooking. Yeah, hamburger helper hates me!! I go to get out milk to make cheesy sauce for on top, guess what.........my 10 year old drank the last of the milk & didn't tell me.

We don't drive, it's Sunday and no buses. So, we have NO MILK, can't finish dinner. So, I scraped what was good into a tupperware & they all have to make their own dinner. Tv dinners or leftovers. Me, I had a brownie. Yum!!

Fun, Free Stuff :) And, Great Bonding Time too!!

Today was Saturday, also a Lowe's Build and Grow Project Day. My 10 year old has enjoyed these for the past few years. It's a great Father/Son activity. Moms, push for your husbands/SO's to take them. If they don't have a father figure, take them!! It's also great bonding for an uncle or grandfather too.

Today they made BINOCULARS!! My husband's schedule changed, so he isn't able to take him anymore. So, for the past 2 projects, I have taken him. I think it's a wonderful idea! He LOVES it!! And, he's inspired to try other projects. He wants to build a bird house lol LOVE it!! Highly recommend these!

Friday, July 22, 2011

Another Hot Day!!

It's another hot day here! It began at 6:15 am for me, so sticky hot we had to sit on the porch for our morning start.

The kids are choosing different ways to cool off. My almost 13 year old spent the day in her room in front of the fan watching movies. My 10 year old on the other hand, spent his day cooling off at the local pool! Our $40 pool pass was a WONDERFUL investment!!

Tonight's Plans:
Catching up on America's Got Talent & WWE Smackdown @ 8!!

Oh yeah, yesterday's errands were a success! I even got a Christmas gift for my 10 year old!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Nine Dead

Nine Dead ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
Nine Dead(2009) R

Nine strangers face the mind-bender of a lifetime when a hooded madman locks them in a basement and announces that he will slay one of them every 10 minutes until they uncover the mysterious connection they all share. But starting without a single clue, can any of them solve the puzzle in less than 90 minutes? This horror-suspense film from director Chris Shadley stars Melissa Joan Hart, John Terry and Lucille Soong.

My thoughts:

It was like Saw, but with a twist. The bad guy was around, he came in and spoke to them. I didn't think three people would be left when they figured it out. Melissa Joan Hart, she was WONDERFUL!! She was believable and she was a KILLER!! Not the one holding them captive, but still!! And the ending, it started by blowing me away. I was shocked, then when it ended, it was like, that was all?? How could it leave everything in suspense?

MOVIE REVIEW: The Roommate

The Roommate ~ 5/5

Here's what http://www.netflix.com/ says:
2011 PG-13 91 minutes

While acclimating to campus life, college freshman Sara (Minka Kelly) begins to realize that her new roommate, Rebecca (Leighton Meester), is becoming obsessed with her. When the unhinged Rebecca starts targeting Sara's friends and loved ones, can she save them -- and herself? This tense psychological thriller also stars Cam Gigandet, Danneel Harris, Alyson Michalka and Frances Fisher.

My thoughts:

Great movie, Leighton Meester was FABULOUS!! She really did a wonderful job portraying such a crazy roommate!

MOVIE REVIEW: Tornado

Tornado ~ 2/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
TornadoNature Unleashed: Tornado(2004) PG-13

Years after his brother is killed in a tornado, Josh feels compelled to capture the violent storms on film. He teams up with Nickie, a reporter researching new meteorological technologies, and the pair set out to get the story of a lifetime. But Nickie's also investigating another dangerous story, and Josh ends up running for his life from vengeful terrorists and a killer tornado. Daniel Bernhardt, Allister Bain and Larry Day star.

My thoughts:

First off, the boy calls the guy at the beginning dad. So I don't get why they say brother? The movie was kinda boring, not very gripping or exciting. It was just ok.

MOVIE REVIEW: Crazy Eights

Crazy Eights ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
2006 R 80 minutes

When six childhood friends gather for an old pal's funeral, they find a map leading to a time capsule they buried two decades ago. But the former playmates discover a shocking secret when they dig it up: the corpse of a young child. Now, they're literally haunted by their past as they try to uncover the truth … before it kills them. Traci Lords, Frank Whaley and Gabrielle Anwar star in this creepy spine chiller.

My thoughts:

Sort of creepy, it was a sad story that they could have prevented. They didn't, so this haunted them.

MOVIEW REVIEW: The Rockville Slayer

The Rockville Slayer ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
The Rockville Slayer(2004) R

A lonely deputy named Charlie Fisher (Circus-Szalewski) is about to have his predictable world turned on its ear when a series of multiple murders -- involving Charlie's brother as one of the victims -- rocks the foundation of his small town. It seems that the last random murders happened 29 years before. Could this violence be part of a pattern?

My thoughts:

The storyline was sorta hard to follow. The murders at the beginning had NOTHING to do with the murders that occurred 20 years before. And there was a random man at the end that I never did figure out who he was? It was ok, but just random. Not a easy to follow storyline.

MOVIE REVIEW: Pelt

Pelt ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
(2010) NR

In 1991, seven hikers (Justin Welborn, Ashley Watkins, Travis Goodman, Matthew Robinson, Amber Bollinger, Sarah Zurell and Ryan Boone) embarked on a thrill-seeking adventure through the woods of Caveland, Ky., despite locals' warnings that only fools would dare to trespass there. Maybe they should have listened. Because shortly thereafter they left civilization and were never seen or heard from again.

My thoughts:

Good movie, like alot of slasher films. Same theme, same basic storyline, just different characters. It's good if you like these type movies, but if you don't like copies, you probably won't like it.

MOVIE REVIEW: Just Go With It

Just Go With It ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
2011 PG-13 116 minutes

When plastic surgeon Danny Maccabee lies to his girlfriend that he is a divorced family man, he recruits his office manager and her children to role-play as his ex-wife and kids -- generating a flood of farcical results and unintended consequences.

My thoughts:

Jennifer Aniston & Adam Sandler are HILARIOUS!! I enjoyed this more than any other movie with either of them. They compliment each other & the storyline was great! I would watch it again & again!

Another day, another life gone by :(

Reflecting tonight on my great-grandmother's passing. She lived to be 97 years old. She was born April 12th, 1914 & passed away last Friday, June 24th, 2011. She was a wonderful woman, as spoken about by her daughter & some of her granddaughters. The pastor from her church just talked about her in such a beautiful, positive way. I hope when I die that people say things like that about me.

We leave each day, but do we TRULY live? Do we enjoy ourselves & make memories with our family that are going to be remembered in 50 or 60 years? Even 30 or 40 years later? I sure hope that I am making these memories with mine.

MOVIE REVIEW: Yogi Bear

Yogi Bear ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

Yogi Bear2010 PG 80 minutes
When the greedy mayor (Andrew Daly) decides to close Jellystone Park to cash in by selling the land, Yogi Bear (voiced by Dan Aykroyd) and his sidekick Boo-Boo (voiced by Justin Timberlake) must team with their adversary, Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh), to save their home. Meanwhile, filmmaker Rachel (Anna Faris) follows Yogi and captures his antics. Nathan Corddry co-stars in this 3D live-action/computer-animated adventure.

My thoughts:

A fun family movie! Yogi was a comedy that was loved by all ages at our house! We laughed about the pic-nik baskets!! And the turtle was pretty awesome, we have turtles for pets at our house!

MOVIE REVIEW: Ramona & Beezus

Ramona & Beezus ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

Ramona and Beezus2010 G 103 minutes
When free-spirited grade-schooler Ramona Quimby's (Joey King) wild imagination leads her into another adventure, she plunges in with her trademark energy … and penchant for mishaps, much to the consternation of her
parents and big sister Beezus (Selena Gomez). Bridget Moynahan and John Corbett co-star as Mom and Dad Quimby in director Elizabeth Allen's adaptation of the beloved children's books by Beverly Cleary.

My thoughts:

First off, Selena Gomez is such a cute actress. I just think she is so adorable & she fits the parts she plays so well. Joey King is just super cute as Ramona! She's too funny & really gets into her part! I would watch this again, it's a great family movie!

MOVIE REVIEW: That's What I Am

That's What I Am ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

That's What I Am(2011) PG
A 12-year-old boy is convinced he's been pushed toward social suicide when his teacher pairs him up for a project with the school's biggest reject. But the boys form an unexpected bond when bullies turn their attention to an unlikely target.

My thoughts:

I absolutely LOVE Randy Orton! I am a huge fan of him & of wrestlers starring in movies! I especially like them in FIGHT movies!! I thought this movie was FABULOUS!! Not only does it have a good story, the plot of the movie is along the lines of what alot of kids deal with now. Bullying happens & people judge others. People are still in that mindset & this movie really taps into that. It has a good message! I was disappointed in Randy's part being so small & I also didn't think his character would be a "bad" guy. Even though that's the part he plays & he plays it WONDERFULLY!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Hunt to Kill

Hunt to Kill ~ 5/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

Hunt to Kill(2010) R
U.S. Border Patrol agent Jim Rhodes (Steve Austin), a deadly hunter whose only weak spot is his daughter, Kim (Marie Avgeropoulos), is forced to take violent revenge when a group of desperate thieves, led by the wily Banks (Gil Bellows), kidnaps Kim after a robbery. Banks demands that Rhodes lead them on foot through treacherous terrain to freedom across the border, but when he's crossed, Rhodes can't contain his fury.

My thoughts:

I'm a big time Stone Cold fan, so I absolutely LOVED it!! I thought the fight scenes were great, I love watching wrestlers in good fight movies!! Thought it was a good movie with a pretty good plot & storyline. I'd watch it again & I'm going to recommend it to my mom!

MOVIE REVIEW: Easy A

Easy A ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

2010 PG-13 92 minutes
High school is the setting for this freewheeling comedic twist on Nathaniel Hawthorne's 19th-century novel The Scarlet Letter. Ambitious student Olive (Emma Stone) decides to boost her popularity by pretending to be the school slut. As the school's swirling rumor mill increases both her notoriety and her finances, Olive enjoys her newfound status but eventually must decide which is more important: popularity or self-esteem.

My thoughts:

It was ok, some humorous moments. Mostly focuses on the book Scarlett Letter & shows what would happen modern day with just rumors. It's ok.

MOVIE REVIEW: Plasterhead

Plasterhead ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

2007 R 93 minutes
On their way to Miami for winter break, four college students take an ill-advised detour through the backwoods of West Virginia and find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become the targets of a vengeful, faceless psychopath. Recalling the energy and grittiness of the classic horror tales from the 1970s, this gruesome thriller stars Kathryn Merry, Ernest Dancy, Josh Macuga, Raine Brown and Brian Dixon.

My thoughts:

It was your typical back hills slasher movie. The same kids running into the same problems because they took the back roads instead of the highway. However, I enjoy these type of movies & anyone who does would find it to be worth watching atleast once.

MOVIE REVIEW: Garbage Pail Kids Movie

Garbage Pail Kids Movie ~ 4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:
1987 PG 96 minutes
Teen Dodger (Mackenzie Astin) gets the surprise of his life when he uncovers a repulsive gang of alien kids in this gross-out tale based on the popular 1980s trading cards. Dodger decides to free Messy Tessie, Foul Phil, Valerie Vomit and the other filthy kids. Out of the garbage can, they help him fight bullies, but is the world ready for the icky Garbage Pail Kids or will authorities toss them down the disposal? Anthony Newley co-stars.

My thoughts:

It was a pretty funny movie. My kids really liked it. We thought it was based on the cards & really cute for being an old 80's movie.
