MOVIE REVIEW: The Babysitters

The Babysitters

2/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

The Babysitters

2007 R 88 minutes

When honors high school student Shirley (Katherine Waterston) becomes romantically entangled with Michael (John Leguizamo), the married father of one of her baby-sitting clients, she quickly recognizes the affair's potential for turning a profit. The enterprising Shirley soon sets up a teenage prostitution ring made up of school chums who she matches up with Michael's bored married friends, all under the guise of baby-sitting.

My thoughts:

She's a bright girl, who uses her smarts for evil. The men are easily brought into the picture because as always men think with their head between the legs! The movie was pretty much a waste of time, no real plot to it. I didn't like it.

MOVIE REVIEW: Masters of Horror: John Carpenter: Cigarette Burns

Masters of Horror: John Carpenter: Cigarette Burns

3/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

Masters of Horror: John Carpenter: Cigarette Burns

2006 NR 58 minutes

Hired by a millionaire collector (Udo Kier) to retrieve the infamous Le Fin du Monde -- a violent movie that reportedly causes viewers to turn into homicidal maniacs after they watch it -- an unsuspecting theater owner (Norman Reedus) begins to fall under the film's spell. John Carpenter directs this unsettling installment of the "Masters of Horror" series, following one man's search for the holy grail of horror cinema.

My thoughts:
This movie was difficult to follow at first. There was a creature chained up and an old movie collector requesting an old film for $2oo,ooo. It was good offer for the guy, but everything seemed mashed together & nothing made sense until the end. Then the ending was surprising and brutal. It was worth watching once.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Burning

The Burning

4/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

The Burning

1981 R 91 minutes

Years after a summer camp janitor (Lou David) is severely burned and disfigured as the result of a teenage prank gone awry, he's released from the local insane asylum and returns to the scene of the crime to seek revenge against those who harmed him. Several yet-to-be-famous stars pop up in this classic teen horror flick, including Oscar winner Holly Hunter and Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld."

My thoughts:

It was typical 80's campy horror movie. People were killed at typical points: trying to get away, sneaking off to have sex, running off alone. It was predictable, but still had it's own story line. If you like 80's horror slasher movies, check this out. It's atleast a decent flick with a little comedy. Enjoy Jason Alexander when he was much younger and had alot more hair!!

MOVIE REVIEW: Backwoods

Backwoods
Backwoods ~ 3/5

Here's what www.netflix.com says:

Backwoods

2008 R 84 minutes

A group of programmers is heading to an executive retreat in the wilderness of Northern California's Jasper Park -- where, two months earlier, a couple disappeared while camping. Will the computer geeks' training prepare them for what ensues? When a friendly paintball game turns into a fight for survival against a band of lunatic locals, the nerds must show what they're made of in this thriller starring Ryan Merriman and Haylie Duff.

My thoughts:

Good movie, it just has a repeat plot. Like so many other slasher films, they go out into the middle of nowhere. A small group, they run into many signs to turn back and ignore them. Then they run into a crazy, deformed family who wants their girls to breed & their men dead. Good story, just over played. Need new ideas. Slasher fans, it's worth a shot!!

BOOK REVIEW: Heiress Under Fire

Heiress Under Fire (Silhouette Romantic Suspense)
Heiress Under Fire ~ 4/5

Here's what www.amazon.com says:
Though heiress Farren Gage exuded a sensuous femininity that made him ache, Elam Rhule didn't need another notch on his belt. He had to eliminate a target and prevent a terrorist attack. Besides, he couldn't fall for another delicate beauty. Farren was wrong for him. Completely wrong.

Farren hadn't traveled to Turkey to find love. She'd come to discover why some foreigner wanted the millions she'd just inherited. So getting involved with an on-the-go sniper who operated outside the law was out of the question, right? Wrong. As their mission heated up so did their desire, and it looked as though two wrongs might just make the most perfect right....

My thoughts:

Enjoyed the book, it had a good storyline, interesting characters & a suspense. The romance was interesting, intriguing & sweet. I really enjoyed it. I liked the twist of adding her father to the mix. What I didn't like was the terrorist character's habits/traits. Didn't seem to fit that of a terrorist to me, a little light or shall I say weak.

TASTE OF HOME WITH LAY'S PLUS GIVEAWAY!!!

Hi everyone!! I'm here to tell you about great new chips from Lay's, and I'm entering a contest by posting this!! Also, I will be giving away LAY'S chips, provided by them!

Lay's new Regional Flavors come in the following varieties:

These chips were inspired by popular American regional cuisine and include:

1. Northeastern U.S. – Lay’s Honey Mustard

2. Midwestern U.S. – Lay’s Creamy Garden Ranch

3. Northwestern U.S. – Lay’s Balsamic Sweet Onion

4. Southwestern U.S. – Lay’s Chipotle Ranch

5. Southeastern U.S. – Lay’s Cajun Herb & Spice

Here's a bit more info on the new chips:

All of the Lay's Regional Flavored potato chips are made with all natural ingredients and cooked in healthier oils, like corn and sunflower oils, which contain 80% or more of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat - the "good fats." They also contain 0 grams of trans fats per serving!

Another tidbit of info:

There’s also less sodium in them than you might think – a 1-oz serving of our Lay’s Regional Flavored potato chips contains less salt than a plain bagel!

If I could choose the next flavor, I'd choose my own recipe:
Nachos & Cheese
I created this on my own, my family are big fans of nachos & cheese, we have them quite often. Not just as dinner, but as a snack, appetizer & often at parties. Standard nachos were just not cutting though, so I created these.

It's the simplest recipe ever!
Hamburger, Cheese Sauce & Taco Seasoning. You fry up your hamburger, add the taco seasoning & then the cheese sauce.

It's a favorite staple at our house & a frequent request from friends & family alike. It's always the talk of the party!

Since learning of the new Lay's flavors, I've decided I'd like to try the Cajun Herb & Spice or the Tangy Carolina BBQ. Looking forward to trying them all at some point though!

Now, do you want to try them too?

Lay's is sponsoring a giveaway through my blog. To enter to win a variety pack of these flavors, just leave a comment on my blog. Include which flavor you'd like to try! Contest ends: August 24th, 2011

BOOK REVIEW: Justice for Some

Justice for Some

Justice for Some ~ 4/5

Here's what www.amazon.com says (from Publisher's Review):

Heading for a family gathering at her father's home/water garden business in rural California, widowed Sarah Drexler anticipates a respite from her work as an Oregon state judge. Instead she finds her deductive skills challenged and the lives of those dearest to her threatened. Joining the tense family dinner is Fran Donatio, a woman whose presence Sarah's father Ralph does not explain. The next morning, after Ralph's body is pulled from a lily pond, police Lt. Arthur Fernandez arrives with questions on another matter: Fran, a PI, was shot not long after leaving the dinner, and it looks like the murderer ransacked her office and apartment. Sarah becomes decidedly snappish when the police suggest that her adult children, Winnie and Virgil, and Ralph's brother and nephew all had ample opportunity to search Fran's digs. When the judge turns sleuth, she learns that her loved ones harbor past and present secrets of which she had no inkling. That Sarah's investigation is first-rate is no surprise--the prolific Wilhelm ( Death Qualified ; Seven Kinds of Death) is also accomplished. This tale, however, offers a bonus in Fernandez who, running his own, equally intelligent investigation in the background, provides a welcome change from the expected solitary-sleuth plot structure.

My thoughts:

The book started off slow, I couldn't get focused. Maybe it was too many characters all at once or too many plots woven together. However, when I took a break and tried to read the book again, I really got into it. The mystery is very entwining and kept me searching for who did it. Good book!
